This 1958 Cessna 182A Skylane Is a Remarkably Practical ‘AircraftForSale’ Top Pick
A market success from the beginning, Cessna’s Skylane remains an all-round performer.
Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.
The vertical stabilizers and rudders of early Cessna 182s lack the swept shape of later models. These “straight tail” Skylanes also have a rear fuselage that slopes steadily from the trailing edge of the wing to the tail with no rear window.
Often called the fastback, the early styling appeals to many pilots who prefer the look if not the reduced visibility. These features give the oldest 182s an appearance that is just different enough to set them apart and mark them as antiques.
If you fly a vintage Skylane like the aircraft for sale today, you will experience a sample of mid-20th century aviation life. At that time, Cessna’s new 182 was a marvel of modernity with all-metal construction, easy operation, and user-friendly flight characteristics. Its then-novel tricycle landing gear helped remove some of the drama from arrivals and departures that was common in a GA fleet made up mostly of taildraggers.
This 182’s vintage status also will spark conversation at the airport, where people are likely to notice your airplane’s distinctive looks and ask questions about it. If you attend fly-ins and other aviation events, you might wind up with prime parking spaces. When it comes to cross-country travel and other missions, though, this antique will seem remarkably modern.
This 1958 Skylane has 4,655 hours on the airframe and 975 hours on its 230 hp Continental O-470-L since overhaul.
The VFR panel includes a Garmin GNC 250XL nav/com, Narco MX-11 com transceiver, Insight G3 engine monitor, Lynx transponder with ADS-B In and Out, and Alpha Systems angle of attack instrument. The cockpit is equipped with BAS shoulder harnesses.
Pilots in the market for a practical antique aircraft capable of completing modern missions should consider this 1958 Cessna 182A Skylane, which is available for $112,000 on AircraftForSale.
