This 1965 Beechcraft S35 Bonanza Is a Modernized, V-Tail ‘AircraftForSale’ Top Pick
V-tail Bonanzas for decades set the standard for high-performance, piston-single aircraft.
Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.
Who would have thought, when the innovative, stylish Beechcraft Bonanza was new, that many pilots would eventually be more comfortable with traditional horizontal and vertical tail surfaces instead of the original model’s distinctive V-shaped tail feathers?
But that is how things turned out over time, and Beechcraft ended production of the V-tail Model 35s in the early 1980s to focus on the “straight-tail” Model 33 and stretched, six-seat Model 36.
Today, with both the 35 and 33 models long gone from the new aircraft market, the V-tail is enjoying a comeback, especially among younger pilots who are attracted to its vintage looks and all-around strong performance. V-tails also tend to be less expensive than the 33s and 36s, in part because of their age. There are, however, plenty of well-maintained V-tails on the market that have many years of useful life left and are waiting for the right buyer.
Today’s aircraft for sale includes modern avionics and other upgrades that bring this 1965 model’s panel in line with far newer aircraft produced within the last 10 to 20 years.
This 1965 S35 Bonanza has 5,075 hours on the airframe, 1,150 hours since new on its Continental IO-520BA engine, and 355 hours since overhaul on its McCauley three-blade propeller. The aircraft is equipped with D’Shannon engine baffles, LED landing and taxi lights, uAvionix Tailbeacon with ADS-B Out, and Reiff engine preheater.
The panel features Garmin G500 avionics with synthetic vision, GarminGMA 340 audio panel, GNS 430 WAAS GPS/nav/com, Garmin SL 30 nav/com, GTX 330 transponder, SiriusXM weather, standby flight instruments, Garmin 496 panel-mounted GPS, Garmin Flight Charts, Garmin SafeTaxi, S-TEC autopilot with altitude hold, and JPI engine monitor.
Pilots shopping for a swift, stylish and economical Bonanza in the classic V-tail configuration should consider this 1965 Beechcraft S35, which is available for $159,000 on AircraftForSale.
