Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.

The Mooney M20, which was certified in 1955, had a modest start with basic features, and wooden wing and tail construction. It was, however, surprisingly quick, coaxing a top speed near 150 ktas from its 150 hp Lycoming O-320 engine. Many aircraft using the same engine were lucky to make 100 ktas.

After a few years, the company added a 180 hp Lycoming O-360 as an option. That powerplant soon became standard equipment and is the engine most pilots associate with the aircraft. Over time Mooney offered turbocharged versions that could easily climb into the flight levels for even greater speeds. In general, though, the model has always, in some form, succeeded in offering more for less.

This 1969 M20 has 4,954 hours on the airframe and five hours on its 200 hp Lycoming IO-360-A1A engine since overhaul. The aircraft was repainted in 2001, and its interior was refurbished in 2002. Other upgrades include electric flaps and landing gear, new brakes and rotors, 52-gallon fuel capacity, and new rubber engine mounts.

The panel includes a McCoy 1700 nav/com with glideslope, Apollo GX 60 GPS, King DME, Electronics International tachometer, fuel flow totalizer, engine monitor, and Garmin GTX 327 transponder with SkyBeacon for ADS-B Out.

Pilots seeking a compact, sharp-looking personal aircraft that provides remarkable cross-country performance with relatively low fuel burn should consider this 1969 Mooney M20, which is available for $94,000 on AircraftForSale.
