Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.

The Baron 55, which was introduced in 1961, was Beechcraft’s answer to the sleek, speedy Cessna 310 that had been in service since the mid-1950s. It was a strong competitor from the start.

Because it was derived from the renowned single-engine Bonanza, the Baron was a pleasant, engaging airplane to fly, with smooth, responsive handling and harmonious controls that pilots appreciate. And because it is a lot like a Bonanza with twice the power, the Baron has an impressive climb rate and can carry heavy loads.

Speaking of extra power, we should mention that the aircraft for sale today has been modified with a pair of 300 hp Continental IO-550s. These engines give the light twin power to spare for short takeoffs, rapid climbs, and impressive cruising speeds.

This 1977 Baron 55 has 7,638 hours on the airframe, 180 hours on each of its 300 hp Continental IO-550C engines, and 180 hours on its heated Hartzell Scimitar three-blade propellers. The aircraft has six seats, aft baggage compartment, large baggage door, and nose baggage compartment.

This Baron has a number of desirable upgrades, including LED position, strobe, landing and taxi lights, D’Shannon engine cooling baffle STC, 100-amp alternators, Tanis engine preheaters, vortex generators, Rosen sun visors, electric elevator trim, and full deice boots with an alcohol windshield deice system. The aircraft carries 166 gallons of usable fuel and has a useful load of 1,569 pounds.

The IFR panel features Aspen EFD-1000 Pro EFIS displays with synthetic vision, dual Garmin GNS 430W GPS/nav/coms, Garmin Mode S traffic, GMA 340 audio panel, GTX 330ES transponder with ADS-B Out, Bendix RDR160 color radar, JPI EDM 760C graphic engine monitor with fuel totalizer, standby attitude indicator, and Century IV autopilot.

Pilots shopping for a classic light twin that helped define the category and remains appealing today for its good looks, speed, and load carrying capacity, should consider this 1977 Beechcraft Baron 55, which is available for $289,000 on AircraftForSale.
