Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.

Grumman American intended to take on the market for personal aircraft and trainers with its series of compact, low-wing two- and four-seat airplanes from the AA-1 Yankee Clipper basic trainer to the relatively speedy AA-5 Cheetah and Tiger models.

The aircraft, which evolved from the innovative Bede Aviation BD-1 design, featured a bonded airframe constructed of aluminum honeycomb structures. This building method resulted in strong, light, and streamlined airplanes that, while not speed demons, were faster than the Cessnas, Pipers and other entry-level models with which they competed.

The AA-1C Lynx, like the aircraft for sale today, is a two-seater similar to the Yankee but was manufactured later, around the time that Gulfstream acquired the company in 1977. Production ended in 1978.

The small, sporty Grumman Americans developed a following among pilots who appreciated their combination of responsive performance and low cost of ownership. Most also adore the design’s fighter-like sliding canopy. This one gets an additional performance boost from an engine modified to provide 125 hp instead of the stock 108 hp.

This 1977 Grumman American AA-1C Lynx has 2,935 hours on the airframe and 1,292 hours since overhaul on its 125 hp Lycoming O-235 engine. The engine has logged 781 hours since undergoing a top overhaul. The aircraft has a tinted canopy and a recently installed new windshield.

The panel includes dual King KX 170B nav/coms with dual VOR instruments, glideslope, and marker beacon, DMA fuel monitor, digital tachometer, and  M800 chronometer.

Pilots shopping for a compact, economical and fun-to-fly, two-seat trainer or personal aircraft should consider this 1977 Grumman American AA-1C Lynx, which is available for $35,000 on AircraftForSale.
