This 1978 Piper PA-32RT-300T Turbo Lance II Is an Economical, Six-Seat ‘Aircraft For Sale’ Top Pick
Unique T-tail design boosts the practical family hauler’s ramp appeal.
Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.
I might have mentioned previously that I have an affection for the T-tail Piper Lances, Arrows, and Tomahawks of the late 1970s, and quite a few are on the market these days.
They often represent an opportunity for pilots to acquire a lot of aircraft at a reasonable price. Their T-tail styling, while not a performance-enhancing feature, gives the airplanes a tall, distinctive appearance that attracts attention on the ramp.
The Lance, which evolved from the fixed-gear Cherokee Six, was Piper’s first large, six-seat entry in the piston-single market. Turbocharged versions like the aircraft for sale here have the added advantage of flying at higher altitude without losing performance the way a naturally aspirated aircraft would. Having the option to fly high to take advantage of favorable wind or smoother air gives a pilot more flexibility in planning and efficiently executing flights.
This 1978 Turbo Lance II has 3,750 hours on the airframe and 750 hours on its 300 hp Lycoming TIO-540-S1AD engine since overhaul. The aircraft is equipped with a turbo intercooler, factory air conditioning, LoPresti flap and gap seals, and wheel cover modifications.
The IFR panel includes a Garmin GNS 430 GPS/nav/com, Collins audio panel, Collins nav/com, Garmin GTX 327 transponder, King DME, Collins ADF, Apollo Loran 604, Piper AutoControl IIIB autopilot, Garmin GDL 82 ADS-B Out, and GDL 52R ADS-B receiver.
Pilots who are looking for a comfortable, high-performance six-seat retractable with passenger-friendly club seating and good cross-country performance for family trips should consider this 1978 Piper PA-32RT-300T Turbo Lance II, which is available on AircraftForSale.
