Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.

The Glasair I was a landmark design in the early days of experimentation with molded glass-reinforced plastic and other composite materials in the construction of homebuilt aircraft. Lightweight and superior aerodynamics helped the aircraft outperform mainstream certified models turned out by major manufacturers and attract more pilots to the kit-building ranks.

The Glasair I for sale today is part of a family of aircraft that included a mix of taildraggers and tricycle-gear models. The fastest versions had retractable gear and engines up to 300 hp and reached speeds of 260 ktas and up, but even the modest Glasair models used speed as a selling point. As a personal aircraft for two people traveling long distances, Glasair designs are hard to beat.

This 1985 Glasair has 400 hours on the airframe and 1,500 hours since overhaul on its Lycoming O-320 engine. The aircraft’s VFR panel includes basic flight instruments with CHT and EGT indicators. Communications are through a pair of hand-held radios. The panel also includes a cassette player.

Pilots seeking a classic high-performance experimental two-seater that is capable of fast cross-country travel should consider this 1985 Glasair I, which is available for $30,000 on AircraftForSale.
