SOCATA’s TBM 700 was part of a single-engine turboprop movement that shook up general aviation during the 1980s and ’90s.

While there were many turboprop twins that had been around for years, such as the Beechcraft King Air and Piper Cheyenne, some pilots remained skeptical about the reliability of turbine singles. How times have changed.

Today turbine singles have nearly taken over certain segments of air taxi and charter operations. They have also become the personal aircraft of choice.

The TBM 700 was the first high-performance turbine single aimed in part at individual pilots shopping for personal aircraft. When the aircraft was under development in the 1980s, the idea—or the fantasy—of owning a personal airliner meant buying a jet. The TBM family of aircraft and competing models challenged that notion and have since redefined what a personal airplane can be.

This 1991 TBM 700A has 3,343 hours on the airframe and its 700 hp Pratt & Whitney PT6A-64 engine, and 155 hours on its Hartzell five-blade propeller. The panel includes Garmin G600 avionics with synthetic vision, dual GTN 750 GPS/nav/coms, GRS 77 AHRS, TCAS, Garmin Flight Stream 510, GDL 69A SiriusXM receiver, WX-1000E Stormscope, KFC 325 autopilot with yaw damper, GTX 345 transponder with ADS-B In and Out, and Shadin fuel flow computer.

Pilots who are making their first foray into the turboprop market and want a machine capable of stunning cross-country performance should consider this 1991 TBM 700A, which is available for $1.05 million on AircraftForSale.
