Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.

Glasair got going in the late 1970s after shaking up the homebuilt aircraft market with its sleek, fast low-wing models beginning with the Glasair I. While the racy early models gained notoriety for their innovative designs and performance, it was the later GlaStar, an experimental high-wing two-seater, that became the company’s top seller.

For some pilots, the GlaStar might represent their ideal version or a Cessna 172. It is a straightforward, economical, and forgiving design that looks like a 172 that received a cosmetic makeover to eliminate any hint of dowdiness.

The aerodynamically clean GlaStar, which can be built with tricycle landing gear or as a taildragger, and readily converted between those formats, is also a lot faster than the Cessna, flirting with 150 ktas while using the same Lycoming O-320 engine as the 172.

The GlaStar and the four-seat version that followed, called the Sportsman, were on the market for many years and benefited from numerous upgrades and thorough development over that time. The aircraft for sale today features modern glass-panel avionics that make it an ideal personal traveler capable of cross-country travel at a brisk pace.

This 2009 GlaStar has 120 hours since new on the airframe and its Lycoming O-320. The IFR panel features dual Dynon SkyView Classic avionics displays for PFD and MFD, Dynon and Garmin nav/coms, Dynon engine management system, and Garmin GTX 175 transponder. The aircraft’s interior was retrimmed in 2019, and its exterior was repainted in 2009.

Pilots looking for a simple, efficient personal aircraft with easy handling and room for two should consider this 2009 Glasair GlaStar, which is available for $119,000 on AircraftForSale.
