This 2023 Diamond DA62 Is a Landmark Light Twin and an ‘AircraftForSale’ Top Pick
Automation simplifies engine-out procedures, reducing pilot workload and boosting safety.
Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.
Diamond’s DA62 is the light twin many pilots have wished for, with just enough automation to ease one’s anxiety about having to deal with an engine failure some day.
If one of the engines fails, the DA62’s systems will identify, verify, and secure the dead engine to include featuring the propeller. Of course, these procedures sound familiar because the pilot is supposed to handle them. Too often we forget or otherwise fail to do so quickly enough to avoid catastrophe.
It does not offend me at all that the airplane would take over those duties, especially if the engine fails on takeoff. I would use the extra time to raise the gear and flaps and pitch for the blue line.
Enough about engine trouble. There is a lot more to the DA62 than feathering props.
It might be one of the finest traveling aircraft on the GA market, especially for long-distance family trips. I am sure my crew would appreciate the roomy, airy, seven-seat cabin (each dog could have his own seat) and the speed with which we would reach our destination. Pilots will like the airplane’s harmonious handling and the fuel economy of its automotive-derived diesel engines.
This nearly-new DA62 has 250 hours on the airframe and each of its 180 hp Austro AE330 engines.
The panel features the Garmin G1000 NXi Phase 2 glass panel cockpit, which includes dual GDU 105x 10-inch displays for PFD and MFD, GEA 71B airframe/engine interface unit, dual GIA 64 W GPS/nav/coms, GMA 1360 audio system, GRS 79 AHRS, GDC 72 digital air data computer, GMU 44 magnetometer, GFC 700 autopilot GTX 345R transponder with ADS-B In and Out, Garmin Flight Stream 510, GWX 75 weather radar, synthetic vision, and GDL 69A SiriusXM weather. Additional equipment includes air conditioning, TKS deicing system, supplemental oxygen, and Barringer wheels and brakes.
Pilots who want to step up to a light twin that was not designed before they were born, and do not wish to wait as much as two years for delivery of a new one, should consider this 2023 Diamond DA62, which is available on AircraftForSale.
