Hartzell Obtains STC for Carbon Voyager Propeller
Purpose-built prop for the Cessna Skywagon is specifically engineered to withstand the rigors of backcountry and off-airport operations.
Hartzell Propeller has received a supplemental type certificate (STC) for its new three-bladed Carbon Voyager prop, it announced Monday.
The carbon-fiber composite propeller is now available for Cessna 180, 182, 185, 206, and T206 single-engine aircraft equipped with Continental 470-50, 520, and 550 engines.
The propellers come in diameters ranging from 80 to 86 inches.
Hartzell's first introduced the Voyager propeller in 2019 in aluminium. The Carbon Voyager is the next iteration of the design, the company said.
“The original aluminum Voyager has earned its place as a popular propeller upgrade among the Cessna Skywagon community,” said Hartzell Propeller president JJ Frigge. "[The new carbon-fiber design represents] the next level of performance and durability, delivering three to four percent improvement in takeoff distances and climb performance, all with a significant weight reduction.”
The Carbon Voyager weighs 54 pounds, which is 20.8 pounds lighter than its metal counterpart.
The company said the aerospace-grade carbon-fiber composite materials used in the construction of the Carbon Voyager are specifically engineered to withstand the rigors of backcountry and off-airport operations.
Additionally, Carbon Voyager propellers feature a 2,400-hour or six-year time between overhaul (TBO).
Supporting Backcountry Aviation
As part of its ongoing commitment to backcountry aviation, Hartzell Propeller is offering a $1,000 discount on backcountry props for members of the Recreational Aviation Foundation (RAF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, maintaining, and creating public-use recreational airstrips across the U.S.
In addition, for every Voyager propeller purchased by an RAF member in 2025, Hartzell will contribute $250 directly to the organization, it said.
