Radiant Unveils Taildragger Taxi Camera
Wing-mounted camera improves safety during taxiing by allowing frontal view for experimental tailwheel aircraft, company says.
Radiant Technology has released a new taxi camera that it says improves visibility for pilots who confront blind spots while operating tailwheel aircraft.
The camera, available for experimental aircraft only at this time, is flush mounted to the top wing and visible on a 7-inch LCD display, allowing the pilot to see what is directly in front of the aircraft. The display folds into a case when not in use.
The device may also be used in the air, providing the pilot with a visual horizon, as well as red crosshairs that help the pilot with touchdown during the landing sequence.
The small camera may be adjusted to any mounting position using a set-screw requiring a half-inch hole, along with connection to the aircraft’s power. It is designed to attach on the flat spot of the panel. A single cable connects the camera to the system’s LCD display.
“The taxi camera is a game-changer, providing improved visibility of what is ahead in the pilot’s blind spot," James Wiebe, president and CEO of Radiant Technology, said in a statement. "The additional capability the display provides while in flight helps improve awareness of whether the aircraft is level. Finally, the red crosshairs are a game-changer for lining up a touchdown spot.”
The Radiant taxi camera system is available from Aircraft Spruce for $375.
