Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.

By the late 1940s, Cessna needed an economical four-seat model in its lineup to slot between the small two-seat 140 and the larger, luxurious 195. The company initially stretched the 140 to make the 170, which had a metal fuselage and tail with fabric-covered, constant-chord wing with V-struts for support. These features set today’s aircraft for sale apart from later versions of the 170, which had all-metal wings with tapered outboard sections and a single struts.

The 170 has aged well and today is among the rare four-seat taildraggers  suitable for family transport as well as backcountry flying. The 170 is also a particularly graceful-looking design, with ideal proportions that signal its antique status without seeming out-of-date. It is a forgiving flyer with enough charisma to make the most routine flights feel special.

This 1948 Cessna has 3,710 hours on the airframe and 554 hours on its Continental C-145-2 engine since its major overhaul. The engine received a top overhaul including new Millennium cylinders 340 hours ago. The aircraft also has a new exhaust, hoses, and powder-coated baffles. The useful load is 995 pounds.

The panel includes a Garmin SL 40 com radio, GTX 327 transponder, uAvionix AV-20S, AV-30S PFD and AV-30S directional instrument, Sigronics SPA-400 intercom, and Artex ELT.

Pilots interested in a vintage taildragger with attractive looks, room for four, and relaxed flight characteristics should consider this 1948 Cessna 170, which is available for $94,000 on AircraftForSale.
