Jeppesen Adds Features to VFR Charting App

Jeppesen is rolling out Version 2.1 of Mobile FlightDeck VFR, the chart maker's data-driven iPad app designed specifically for fair weather fliers.

The latest iteration of the software offers a number of minor enhancements, but pilots will love two changes in particular. Mobile FlightDeck VFR 2.1 now includes the ability to automatically log flight time and the app also now provides audio warnings of potential airspace incursions.

The audible warnings can be made to work with Bluetooth-capable headsets. Jeppesen announced at Sun 'n Fun yesterday a deal with Sennheiser to position the headset maker as the preferred partner on Mobile FlightDeck VFR.

Jeppesen rolled out Version 2.0 of the app earlier this year, adding "matrix-driven" graphical weather overlays. These appear similar to all the other data in the app, which rather than being derived from raster scans of sectional charts are created from Jeppesen's vast library of airport and airspace information in a way that makes finding information quick and easy.
