Two people died in the collision of a Cessna Citation CJ and a Cessna 150 at the Marion Indiana Municipal Airport (MZZ) last night about 5 p.m. local time. Marion is located about 50 miles northeast of Indianapolis.
While the details are still preliminary, the FAA believes the Citation was still rolling out after landing when it was struck by the 150 as the single-engine aircraft was taking off. The 150 completely sheared off the tail of the Citation during the accident and then crashed near the side of the runway before catching fire. The two fatalities occurred in the Cessna 150 and are believed to have been two firefighters from the Madison County Indiana area.
No one aboard the Citation was reported to have been injured in the accident.
Local news footage appears to show the accident happened near the intersection of the airport’s two runways. Marion Airport is a non-controlled facility.
