Doc’s Friends Get Ready to Move in to B-29 Doc Hangar and Education Center

The B-29 Doc Hangar and Education Center will soon go from rendering to reality. Doc’s Friends

The B-29 Doc Hangar and Education Center at the Wichita Eisenhower National Airport (ICT) is nearly complete. Doc's friends showed off the 32,000 square foot facility in a recently released video and the organization is expected to take possession in early November, when the maintenance crew will begin the winter maintenance operations for the recently restored Superfortress.

The main area, where the B-29 will live when it is not on tour, is complete, as seen in the video. Signage, flag poles, benches, granite stones and bricks, which have been purchased by Doc's supporters to help fund the facility, are being installed in the next few days. There are still granite stones and bricks available to purchase for anyone who wants to support Doc and the new facility. An engraved 4 by 8-inch brick costs $200 while an 8 by 8-inch granite stone costs $400.

The construction company is still working on the upper mezzanine, where educational exhibits and historical displays will be located. The set-up of the educational and historical areas, lobby, offices and conference room are expected to be completed by late December.

A public open house for the B-29 Doc Hangar and Education Center is being planned in January. Doc's Friends will release more details about the opening of the facility soon.
