Epic Flight Academy has signed an agreement with Seminole State College of Florida (SCC) that will allow pilots it trained to use their certifications as credit toward a  degree.

According to Epic, the deal lets pilots earn up to 27 credit hours toward an associate degree.

The certification for credit breakdown is as follows:

  • Up to six credit hours each for a private pilot, instrument rating, and commercial single-engine certificate
  • Four credit hours each for commercial multiengine and CFI rating
  • Five credit hours for initiation CFI

“This agreement with Epic Flight Academy offers a fantastic opportunity for individuals to not only earn college credit but also to complete a credential at Seminole State faster,” said Dr. Loretta Ovueraye, vice president of academic affairs at Seminole State. “With the credits earned from their licensure, students will be a step ahead and have a wide range of options to continue their education in preparation for a successful career in some of Florida’s high-demand, high-paying industries.”

An SSC associate degree requires 60 credit hours.

“This provides a pathway for our flight students to turn their FAA-issued flying credentials into college credit toward a degree in more than 200 program options," said Danny Perna, founder and CEO of Epic Flight Academy. "…Seminole State’s online courses offer flexibility to Epic pilots who have joined the workforce. A Seminole State College degree will enhance their career opportunities.”

Seminole State College has six locations and offers associate and bachelor’s degrees.

According to Cindy Lovell, director of education at Epic, this is the fourth college partnership for Epic, following agreements with Daytona State College and Polk State College in Florida, and Purdue Global.

Epic Flight Academy was founded in 1999 and has 10 campuses offering training for pilots and aircraft maintenance technicians.
