Delta State University
Located in Cleveland, Mississippi, Delta State University offers four bachelor’s programs in commercial aviation and one graduate degree. The business-focused bachelor’s program has five concentrations to choose from. Flight students start flying in their very first semester at DSU. Delta State University educates students at a Part 141 FAA approved flight school while keeping their budget in mind.

Delta State University’s program has AABI accreditation and the school is part of region 4 of the National intercollegiate Flying Association Inc.
Value
Delta State University’s tuition is on the affordable side. Each semester students will pay approximately $4,000 or base academic tuition. Base tuition does not include flight training costs.
Total flight costs at Delta State University are also affordable. DSU estimated that a flight student from zero hours to certified instrument instructor will pay less than $50,000 in total flight training costs. This is much lower than most flight schools.
Veterans can use benefits like the the GI Bill to help pay for school.
Delta State’s Commercial Aviation Program was featured in FedEx Express’ new video about its Purple Runway Aviation Scholarship Program. They are receiving $500,000 from FedEx for aviation scholarships—$100,000 a year for five years.
Fleet and Facilities
The facilities used by the Commercial Aviation Department include two 15,625 square foot hangars. A 12,000 square foot academic building is home to faculty offices, classrooms and an approved testing center for FAA Written Exams.

Delta State University also has several simulators for students to take advantage of in addition to the aircraft provided.
Campus Life
Delta State University has over 100 registered Student Organizations. Some of the organizations students can join include; Delta Diplomats, International Student Organization, and Wildlife Society. Greek life is also prominent on campus, hosting 14 Greek chapters.
DSU plans many on campus events each semester that all students can attend for free. Welcome Week and Springfest are two of the largest events on campus every year. Student ca join the Campus Activities Board to get involved with planning these events.
The Bottom Line
Delta State University can offer a comprehensive aviation degree to prepare students for both flight line and business aviation without breaking the bank. DSU is a small school in rural Mississippi but can still provide students with some traditional college experiences such as Greek life and campus activities.
