Maine Instrument Flight (MIF)

Multiple locations

With 74 years in the business, Maine Instrument Flight is one of the oldest flight schools/charter operations in the country training pilots since 1946. Headquartered in Augusta, ME, MIF serves all of New England and the contiguous United States as well as Canada.

Program Overview

Maine Instrument Flight, established in 1946, is one of the oldest civilian flight schools in the U.S. It is the only FAA-certified Part 141 flight school in Maine, offering courses for private pilot, instrument rating, commercial pilot, multi-engine rating, and various flight instructor certifications.

Program Highlights

In the Fall of 2013, the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA), in conjunction with Maine Instrument Flight, introduced a new four-year degree program. The new course of study allows students to obtain a bachelor’s degree in aviation and obtain their pilot certificates. MIF also offers advanced training for qualified veterans and active duty personnel following their private pilot certificate. For flight students using Montgomery G.I. Bill benefits, the Veterans Administration (V.A.) will cover 60% of their training costs. Additionally, Post 9/11 benefits may cover up to 100% of training expenses.
