Program Highlights

Texas State Technical College is an FAA-approved Part 141 pilot school and flight operations are conducted at the TSTC Waco Airport (KCNW). The school is located directly on the airfield.

Programs offered include:

  • Associate of Science
    • Aircraft Pilot Training Technology
    • Aircraft Powerplant Technology
    • Aircraft Airframe Technology
    • Avionics

It is part of Region 4 of the National Intercollegiate Flying Association.

Value

Texas State Technical College’s base tuition for the full 20 months aviation programs comes in at about $11,000, which is lower than most associate aviation programs. This is base tuition and does not include flight fees.

On top of base tuition, flight students will have additional costs for flight courses. Over the course of two years, before financial aid or scholarships, flight costs will come in at about $85,000, which is relatively average.

Texas State Technical College offers scholarships to help mitigate the cost of tuition and flight, including the:

  • Brazos Endowed Scholarship
  • King Foundation Endowed Scholarship
  • Northwest Optimist Club Scholarship

Students can also seek outside aviation scholarships and the school accepts veteran’s benefits such as the GI Bill.

Fleet and Facilities

The program has four aircraft and two full-motion Redbird flight simulators. The fleet includes:

  • Cessna 172s
  • Piper PA28Rs
  • Piper PA44-180s

Students will also have unlimited access to Redbird simulators at a flat cost that’s lumped into tuition.

Campus Life

Texas State Technical College is a community college on the north end of Waco. The school offers on-campus housing and dining facilities for its students.

It also hosts a number of clubs for students to join like an aviation co-ed fraternity, Alpha Eta Rho.

Students can also join intramural sports like football, softball, and volleyball, and the school participates in SkillsUSA.

The Bottom Line

Texas State Technical College may be a small community college, but it has built a strong flight program. Training pilots for 50 years has given the college the knowledge and discipline to create successful and safe pilots. Texas State Technical College may be a good fit for a student wanting to complete their degree and their flight training in less than two years for less than $100,000.
