Garmin Scores EASA Nod for G3X Touch Flight Display

An approval announced on July 21 makes way for hundreds of single-engine piston aircraft operating under European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) regulations to take advantage of the Garmin G3X Touch integrated flight display—with a wide range of compatibilities and configurations now available. The high-resolution touchscreen display offers wireless connectivity and synthetic vision in its standard configuration—among other features such as engine monitoring and “advanced autopilot capability,” according to a company press release.

“Through a well-established relationship with EASA and a combined commitment to improve safety in general aviation, we are thrilled to bring the G3X Touch glass display suite to hundreds of certified piston aircraft in Europe,” said Carl Wolf, vice president of aviation sales and marketing for Garmin Aviation.

Five different panel configurations give the aircraft owner the ability to chose one that fits the space available as well as their particular mission. “One configuration option includes dual large 10.6-inch G3X Touch displays and another includes a 10.6-inch display paired with a 7-inch display,” the company notes. “Both of these configurations offer the convenience and utility of a large primary flight display (PFD) with a dedicated multi-function display (MFD). Another option allows dual 7 inch displays to serve as a dedicated PFD/MFD. For space-limited panels, pilots can also install a single 10.6-inch or 7-inch display.” When multiple displays are present in the airplane, the system offers up redundancy, with the ability for one display to show all PFD data—including engine management information, if that option is installed.

The G3X Touch pairs with a variety of Garmin’s GPS navigators and nav/coms, including the GTN 650Xi/750Xi, GTN 650/750, GPS 175/GNX 375, GNS 430W/530W, GNS 480, SL 30/40, and GNC 255. Pilots can fly fully-coupled approaches when the G3X Touch is combined with the GFC 500 autopilot and a GPS 175/GNC 355/GNX 375, GTN 650Xi/750Xi or GTN 650/750. Pricing starts at $7,995 for a single 7-inch display and $9,995 for a 10.6-inch display. Pricing includes the G3X Touch display, install kit, ADAHRS, magnetometer and temperature probe (installation not included). There is no additional cost for the STC.
