Hartzell introduced a new supplemental type certificate for its Trailblazer propeller, which can now be installed on a range of Piper Super Cub models. The STC for the 83-inch composite propeller is owned by Lowell, Indiana-based Professional Pilots Inc. and covers both PA-12 and PA-18 models.

The propeller provides impressive performance improvements over an aluminum propeller. “Takeoff thrust is increased by as much as 30 percent compared to many fixed pitch models, reducing takeoff distance dramatically,” said Brian Sutton, the founder and general manager of Professional Pilots Inc. “Cruise speed is also increased by nearly 20 percent, allowing much greater efficiency and engine wear.”

The performance enhancements do not in any way degrade the longevity of the propeller. The Trailblazer prop has an unlimited life and features a field-replaceable nickel-cobalt leading edge, allowing for better durability in the backcountry.

Professional Pilots Inc. also owns STCs for a new high-performance exhaust system, as well as the Hartzell Top Prop 80-inch constant speed propeller and the MT constant speed propeller for the Super Cub. Additionally, Professional Pilots Inc. owns prop STCs for the entire Piper PA-32 series of airplanes.
