Corporate Angel Network Sets a Stunning Mark

Most are familiar with the Corporate Angel Network's mission — arranging rides to and from treatment for cancer patients in empty seats on corporate aircraft. But the breadth of the White Plains, New York-based charity was underscored when it arranged transportation for 317 patients in October this year — the most impressive monthly total in CAN's 30-year history. The October record tops the previous mark of 307 set just a few months earlier in July 2010. Peter Fleiss, executive director of CAN said, "This second record in the past three months is remarkable. It demonstrates the willingness of business aviation to help cancer patients through the use of this flexible and convenient transportation asset." Some would argue that Fleiss understates the contribution CAN makes. In many cases, conventional air travel is not possible for patients due to the risk of infection to their weakened immune systems. The flights to and from treatment center allow these patients to retain the maximum possible quality of life as they fight their battle against cancer. Since its founding in 1981, the Corporate Angel Network has arranged more than 35,000 flights. Click here to read Lane Wallace's feature article profiling CAN.
