EAA Preps for Annual Skiplane Fly-in

As an arctic chill spills south from Canada to remind many of us that winter has indeed arrived, EAA is gearing up for its annual Skiplane Fly-In. Planned for Saturday, Jan. 21, at the association's Pioneer Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, more than two dozen skiplanes are expected for the event showcasing a unique segment of flight reserved for the heartiest among us.

EAA said the majority of skiplanes will arrive (weather and runway conditions permitting) mid-morning and will stay until mid-afternoon. If weather or snow conditions don’t allow aircraft arrivals at Pioneer Airport, other activities will continue as planned, including complimentary chili and cake celebrating the birthday of EAA matriarch Audrey Poberezny.

The annual skiplane fly-in will also celebrate the 58th anniversary of the first meeting of the Experimental Aircraft Association, which took place on Jan. 24, 1953, at Wright Field (now Timmerman Airport) in Milwaukee.

The Skiplane Fly-in is free of charge to the public. Skiplane pilots who wish to participate need to receive approval and a flight briefing before landing at Pioneer Airport.
