L-3 Communications has announced it received FAA Technical Service Order (TSO) authorization for its SmartDeck glass panel avionics suite. At the same time, the company announced Supplemental Type Certification (STC) approval for the Cirrus SR22 G2. That gives Cirrus owners the option of having the SmartDeck installed as a retrofit. No price was announced for the system, which incorporates a center-screen data entry display replacing the dual Garmin 430 configuration that is standard on current SR22s. Cirrus and Garmin made big news recently by announcing at the EBACE show in Switzerland the $48,000 G1000-based Perspective avionics option for Cirrus SR22 G3 buyers. It incorporates synthetic vision, a center console data-entry panel and a 'Level' button on the autopilot designed to recover from loss-of-control upsets. L-3 has been working with Cirrus in developing the avionics platform for its developmental single-engine jet, known so far as, "the jet."
