Sporty's Pilot Shop has acquired PilotWorkshops, a leading source of online courses for pilots building their skills and maintaining proficiency, the pilot educator and supplier announced Monday.

Sporty's began as a pilot supply shop, and over the decades added aviation education. The business, based in Batavia, Ohio, was one of the first entities to offer online ground schools.

PilotWorkshops, established in 2005, specializes in online training courses and pilot-friendly manuals designed to help GA pilots in both the VFR and IFR environments.

“PilotWorkshops was founded with the goal of helping pilots improve their skills and confidence,” company founder Mark Robidoux said in a statement. “By teaming up with Sporty’s, we’re taking that mission to the next level. Together, we’ll expand our reach while maintaining the exceptional quality our customers have come to know and expect.”

Officials at Sporty's describe the addition of PilotWorkshops as "doubling down on our dedication to supporting pilots everywhere."

According to Sporty's, the deal will be seamless to PilotWorkshops’ existing customers without price changes or interruptions. PilotWorkshops will retain its team of experienced instructors and will be working with the team at Sporty's to enhance the training programs.

“Sporty’s has always been about more than just products—we’re here to inspire and educate pilots," said John Zimmerman, president and CEO of Sporty’s. "Our partnership with PilotWorkshops strengthens our commitment to aviation education. This is about building something bigger than the sum of its parts to benefit the entire aviation community.”

PilotWorkshops' training materials are available online through Sporty’s here.
