Whether you’re planning to fly to the big show this year or not, it’s worth checking out the 2021 SimVenture flight simulation event ahead of EAA AirVenture this year. The simulation led by PilotEdge emulates the EAA AirVenture notam procedures for pilot proficiency before the airshow. We’re all a bit rusty—and the notam has seen a significant update since 2019, as EAA took the opportunity to add ATC-assignable transition points on the western approach corridors into Oshkosh, Wisconsin’s Whitman Regional Airport (KOSH). The association has worked with the FAA to make edits throughout the notam, in fact, so it’s worth the quality time spent—and the practice run that SimVenture offers.
SimVenture 2021 allows pilots to not only fly the route into the show, but also taps actual Oshkosh air traffic controllers to provide realistic radio communications throughout the simulation. Thanks go to volunteers from the National Air Traffic Controllers Association for that important piece of the simulation event. SimVenture 2021 will be held on PilotEdge’s network from July 14 to 18—with customized scenery provided for MSFS2020, X-Plane 11, Prepar3D, and FSX.
