Reno Air Races School on Track to Break Record

** Reno Air Races**

It appears the interest is growing in the National Championship Air Races, the annual aerial pylon race that is set to take place this year on September 10 through 14 at the Reno-Stead Airport, 10 miles northwest of Reno, Nevada. A record number of registrations for the National Championship Air Races Pylon Racing Seminar (PRS), the mandatory rookie race-pilot training program, has been entered this year.

More than 70 airplanes and 90 participants have been registered for the PRS, which is set to take place June 11 through 14. The previous PRS record was set in 2007 with 63 airplanes. "To have such an overwhelming turnout of pilots and planes is a pretty good indication that this year's National Championship Air Races will be one of our biggest yet," said Joey Scolari, member of the Reno Air Racing Association (RARA) board of directors.

First time participants of the Reno Air Races must complete the PRS course. The program includes a ground school program, which the participants must pass before they are allowed to practice on the race course under the supervision of instructors. Previous air race participants are also invited to refresh their skills during the weeklong event.
