Video: Edge of Space in a MiG-29

The age of space tourism has already begun. In this video Robert Mason of Baltimore, Maryland, shares his flight to the edge of space in a Russian MiG-29 at the Sokol Airbase in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. While the video has no sound, you can watch as the skies darken and the curvature of the earth appears when the airplane approaches 68,000 feet, flying at speeds as high as Mach 2.

As an added bonus, Mason had an opportunity to put his hands on the controls of the Russian fighter jet and experience some aerobatics maneuvers, pulling upwards of 5 Gs. The flight was arranged through Florida’s Incredible Adventures.

Pia Bergqvist joined FLYING in December 2010. A passionate aviator, Pia started flying in 1999 and quickly obtained her single- and multi-engine commercial, instrument and instructor ratings. After a decade of working in general aviation, Pia has accumulated almost 3,000 hours of flight time in nearly 40 different types of aircraft.
