Do you have a truly engaging story to tell about how flying changed your life? If you also happen to be no older than 24, Sporty’s has the chance of a lifetime for you to share that story with the world through the recently announced the second annual Richard Collins Writing Prize for Young Pilots contest. The winning entry also takes home $2,500. The contest, named for Flying's former editor-in-chief, Richard L. Collins, offers an exciting way for young writers to follow in his footsteps.

To qualify, writers must be pilots (including students) 24 years of age or younger. The story must be original, not previously published, and run no longer than 1,500 words. Not only will the winner take home a cash prize, the winning story will be published in Air Facts. The winner will be announced during the 2020 Sun ’n Fun Fly-In in Lakeland, Florida.

Articles may be submitted now through March 3, 2020, as a Word document and sent only via e-mail to editor@airfactsjournal.com. Please add “Young Pilot” in the subject line. Additionally, young pilots must submit a 100-word bio written in the first person (I, me vs. he, her) with their article. Once a submission is received, no corrections or editing are allowed. Additionally, the author must no older than 24 years of age as of March 3, 2020. Photographs to illustrate the article are accepted but not required.

The winner will be notified by email no later than April 1, 2020, and awarded the $2500 check. Although there is only one prize, Air Facts reserves the right to publish any article submitted.
