Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.
The big, brawny Howard DGA arrived late during aviation’s golden age and is emblematic of the rapid advancement that characterized the era.
A close relative of the innovative Mister Mulligan DGA-6 long-distance racer that won the Bendix and Thompson trophies in 1935, the standard DGA was also known for high performance. It was an ideal vehicle for flashy, well-to-do people who wanted to reach destinations quickly.
The aircraft for sale today presents an opportunity for pilots to immerse themselves in aviation history while still enjoying the practical and impressive capabilities of a powerful, roomy cabin monoplane. In addition to sparking conversation on the ramp, this airplane will be the next owner’s ticket to just about any vintage aircraft event.
This 1943 Howard DGA has 1,597 hours on the airframe, zero time on its 450 hp Pratt & Whitney R-985 engine, and 382 hours on its Hamilton Standard 2D30 propeller. The aircraft is equipped with an electric fuel pump, electric primer, Jasco alternator, Cleveland brakes, and Grimes G 3600-A5 landing lights. Both wings were reskinned in 1998, and the airframe was restored in 2002.
The panel includes a Garmin GNX 375 GPS navigator and ADS-B transponder, GNC 300, Narco AT150 T50 transponder, PS Engineering PM1200 audio panel, and ACK Technologies E-01 ELT.
Pilots who have always wanted to own and fly an example of golden-age style and technology should consider this 1943 Howard DGA-15P, which is available for $219,900 on AircraftForSale.
