Mooney seemed to get it right early on with the M20 design. The four-place single, which at first used the same 150 hp engine as later Cessna 172s, quickly gained attention for its impressive performance despite relatively low power.
Not long after production began, Mooney upgraded the M20 to the 180 hp Lycoming O-360, which improved performance and became, many would say, the quintessential power source for the airframe.

For pilots who wanted to fly long cross-country legs, the M20 became an ideal vehicle. The aircraft could fly long legs while matching and often surpassing the cruising speeds of competitors with larger engines and more power. For those seeking more speed and higher cruising altitudes, the company developed turbocharged versions of the M20. Eventually even big-bore engines found their way into the M20 engine compartment, pushing speeds to surprising levels.
This 1964 Mooney M20C has 3,472 hours on the airframe and 2,314 hours on its Lycoming O-360 engine and propeller. Its VFR panel includes a Garmin Aera 660 GPS, King KX 155 nav/com, and Stratus ESG for ADS-B In and Out.
Pilots looking for a swift, efficient, and economical personal airplane for cross-country travel should consider this 1964 Mooney M20C Mark 21/Ranger, which is available for $72,500 on AircraftForSale.
