Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.
During the late 1980s Mazda unveiled the Miata, a two-seat convertible sports car that had all of the appeal of much older traditional roadsters with none of their characteristically chronic problems, from basic discomfort to faulty systems.
Around the same time, the Aviat Husky was doing the same thing for the GA market. It was designed to attract pilots who wanted to enjoy a traditional taildragger experience without the frailties and oddities one often finds in aircraft older than their parents.
Much of the Husky’s advantage comes from simply being newer than the Piper Super Cub, Maule, and Aeronca with which it competes. It also has undergone numerous design tweaks that make it easier to fly and more pleasant to live with. One look at the instrument panel of the aircraft for sale today sums up its advantages over typical legacy taildraggers.
This 2006 Husky has 567 hours on the airframe, 47 hours on its 200 hp Lycoming IO-360-A1D6 engine since overhaul, and 85 hours since new on its MT composite constant-speed propeller. The aircraft is equipped with 29-inch tundra tires.
The IFR panel includes a Garmin GNS 530 GPS/nav/com, GTX 327 transponder, GI 106 CDI, GMA 340 audio panel, traditional six-pack of flight instruments, CGR-30P digital engine monitor, digital chronograph, JPI OAT gauge, and uAvionix SkyBeacon with ADS-B Out.
Pilots who are interested in finding a tailwheel aircraft that is capable, comfortable, well built, and not 70 or 80 years old should consider this 2006 Aviat A-1B Husky, which is available for $215,000 on AircraftForSale.
